Hello, distinguished members of the committee. My name is Grandpa Steve. I like to shoot my .38's and my 9mm a lot. But it is getting expensive. The cost of eye and ear protection is rising. The increased expense of ammunition, gun cleaning and repair equipment, reloading supplies, targets, range fees, and concealed carry permits have caused me and countless fellow shooters to use cheaper products. The threat of having a pistol blow up in our hands is causing increased usage of prohibitively costly psychological and medical care. We can barely afford to fulfill our rights to enjoy expensive restaurants and entertainments. We have had to shorten our Caribbean vacations to 4 weeks and have even needed to fly coach at times. And we had to sell our Chevy Volt due to the rise in home insurance because of the threat of fire.

Please help us, Mr. President, and make the NRA pay for my contracaption.

The Set Up: Planned Parenthood calls a Catholic based food bank to request a van to pick up donated food. If the food bank sends a van to pick up, Planned Parenthood gets a dandy photo-op of Catholics taking from abortion providers. If the food bank refuses the pick up, Planned Parenthoodoid goons accuse the food pantry of denying food to the poor.

The food pantry refused to pick up from Planned Parenthood and is now subject to the usual Liberal abuses.

It seems that, more and more, the President and other far Leftists are preaching from an assumption taken from the words of Cain, the first murderer. We may call it the Epistle of Cain. We are our brother's keeper.

Jerry Bowyer posts an entry on Godfather Politics titled I’m Only My Brother’s Keeper if My Brother is My Sheep.

Here is a post that I also wrote and posted in 2007 that runs in a similar vein:

"Cain spoke to Abel his brother. And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him. Then the LORD said to Cain, "Where is Abel your brother?" He said, "I do not know; am I my brother's keeper?'"

Cain's question is most often interpreted to be a selfish denial of his responsibility to be his brother's keeper. To the contrary, however, Cain had actually presumed to be his brother's keeper. He considered Abel's life to be under his authority, to be given or taken at his pleasure. Cain had taken and swallowed the bait of temptation just as his mother, Eve, had done when she chose to act upon the claim, 'You will be be like God.'

In more modern times, the seductive lure of being like God changes only in outward rhetoric. It nonetheless remains as Solomon stated so long ago, "There is nothing new under the sun."

One 'academic scribbler from a few years back' causing wannabe 'madmen in authority to distill their frenzy' is Julian Huxley. In his essay, 'Transhumanism' published in New Bottles for New Wine in 1957, Huxley purported to be like God, albeit in more sophisticated, yet nevertheless thinly veiled terms:

As a result of a thousand million years of evolution, the universe is becoming conscious of itself, able to understand something of its past history and its possible future. This cosmic self-awareness is being realized in one tiny fragment of the universe-- in a few of us human beings.[italics mine][...]

It is as if man had been suddenly appointed managing director of the biggest business of all, the business of evolution-- appointed without being asked if he wanted it, and without proper warning and preparation. Of course they are fighting over boys. Carol is fighting for the Alabama boys and Pat is scrapping for the L.S.U. boys. On January 9th, these two groups of boys will be deciding the BCS Championship.

Carol is still smarting over the Crimson Tide's November loss at the hands of the L.S.U. Tigers (9 - 6 in overtime) that dropped her beloved Tide down in the national rankings. But after a few fortunate turns of events, they climbed back into the 2nd spot and will again play for the National Championship.

Pat's undefeated Tigers seek to finish in that same manner and hoist the champions' trophy. She writes

Addison is a student at the University of Houston, which is very close to the Planned Parenthood “abortion supercenter” on the Gulf Freeway in Houston. In fact, we took a Bound4LIFE focused Call there in January 2010 to pray and rally against the late-term abortion center being placed right in the center of a minority neighborhood near two universities. Resembling a cash register, the abortion supercenter has a whole floor devoted to surgical abortions, which include late term abortions, yet it masks itself as a women’s health center, which is how Addison ended up there.

He froze, keys half sorted in his hand, when he heard a sudden arrhythmic ticking.

"What's that?" he said.

"It came from this closet," Kevin said. He'd heard it, too, like water dripping. Perhaps John Donnelly had left something leaking in the closet, or exposed water pipes were condensing, or something. He opened the door.

"Don't open that!" Robert said, and it was too late.

Kevin saw it wasn't a closet, but the basement steps; they went down to the right. The ticking increased as the light chased the shadows from the top of the stairs. A low growl started, and Kevin leapt backwards from the doorway, brushing the island and jamming steel into his back. Kevin wrapped his hands around the butt of the pistol and regained his balance even as the snarling dog reached the top step and turned on him.

He pointed the gun at the white blur as it reached his feet and pawed and gnashed at his ankles...
